Trinity College Dublin Case Study By Adaptas Training

THE CHALLENGE:

As one of the famous universities in the world, Trinity College Dublin is always one step ahead in education. Educating it’s medical students, and examining future medical practitioners requires giving them the best opportunities to learn and to prove and improve their skills. However, when it comes to mental health, much caution must be exercised, and it is not possible to let inexperienced students loose to test out their theories or practice with people who are experiencing distress.

THE SOLUTION:

On a number of occasions between 2009 and now, adaptas™ have worked with Trinity College Dublin to supply actors for roleplay, for example medical exams (e.g. OSCE’s) and medical communication skills classes. Our actors have played a range of characters with mental health diagnoses, such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and also characters who are in distress at being given serious health diagnoses. adaptas™ have also produced training videos for use by students in the medical faculty on an online platform.

FEEDBACK:

“This is the fifth time we have used adaptas™ to supply our actors for training/assessments. Most helpful was the consistency which the actors brought to each examination. We will definitely continue to use adaptas™.

“We were all delighted with the actors and thought that the stations worked really well. The comments from the external examiner were also highly favorable. All Examiners were impressed by the quality and consistency of performance for what was a difficult, complicated clinical psychiatry scenario. We have already referred you to colleagues in GP for recent exams, they were also very happy with the service.”
